Lady Gaga’s Upcoming Album
Lady Gaga has described her forthcoming album “Mayhem”, slated for release on March 7, as “Comply Chaos” in a recent interview.
Music Description and Creative Process
In a conversation with Elle, Gaga shared that the album embodies “full chaos” from a genre perspective, drawing influences from the “alternative” 90s, electric sounds, the melodies of Prince and Bowie, guitar riffs, heavy bass lines, French electronic dance, and analog synthesizers.
“(The album) just feels good for me. It sounds good. This violates a lot of rules and is very fun,” she conveyed to the magazine.
On the concept of synesthesia in her music, she explained: “As I write, it’s like colors are forming in my mind, and through the recording process, they come alive. Each song is a different shade, with many tracks on this album having a burgundy or brown hue. ‘Bad Roman’ had that reddish vibe.”
Gaga reflected on her artistic journey, stating that she previously perceived her stage persona as separate from her music creation. However, her process of crafting this “chaos” revealed a deeper connection: “I am the creator, and I did all this, which helped me appreciate myself more deeply as a musician and songwriter.”
“Mayhem” will mark Gaga’s seventh studio album and is available for pre-order here. The album consists of 14 tracks produced by Gaga, Michael Polansky, and Andrew Watt, with contributions from producers like Cirkut and Gesaffelstein. It promises to reinvent the “early sound of Gaga with a kaleidoscopic approach,” according to the press release.
Polansky, Gaga’s fiancé, also shared his thoughts with Elle regarding the project. “This album was so fun to witness as she worked on it… What surprised me the most was her speed. Within five minutes, 80 percent of the song would come together from thin air.”
Gaga is set to debut her third single “Mayhem” along with its music video on February 2 during a commercial break at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
In related news, Gaga has been confirmed as a headliner for Coachella 2025, joining Post Malone and Green Day. She will also perform at the La Wildfires Benefit concert alongside artists like Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, and others.
