Sharing on Instagram on Thursday (March 27), the former Black Eyed Peas singer, whose real name is Staisy Ann Ferguson, posted a collage of her childhood photos alongside a screenshot listing her name in Billboard’s list of the top women artists of the 21st century.
Reflecting on a Milestone Birthday
As she reflected on her career with her 4 million followers on her birthday, the “London Bridge” singer wrote: “Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to share to celebrate this significant milestone, so I decided to write a letter to my younger self.”
“Dear little Steisi, one day you will turn 50, and you will be proud of who you’ve become. You may not understand everything now, but you will know that true happiness lies within the simplest moments. Continue to love with your whole heart and work on yourself. All of it makes sense.”
Reflecting on being recognized by Billboard, she described it as a “beautiful surprise” that made her feel her music “means something.”
“I also could not acknowledge this milestone without mentioning my son Axl Jack,” she continued. “The sweetest love I’ve ever known. You inspire me to be the best version of myself every day. Here’s to the future!”
Prominent artists such as Questlove, Nancy Sinatra, and others commented on her post to wish her a happy birthday. Fergi joined Black Eyed Peas in 2002, contributing to their album “Elephunk” and singing on many of their biggest hits, including “Boom Boom Pow,” “I Gotta Feeling,” and “My Humps.”
Speaking about her solo work to NME back in 2016, she expressed a sense of liberation as a mother and pop performer, particularly regarding her single “Milf $.” “Being a mother doesn’t mean it has to be the only definition of who you are,” she noted.
“You can be a politician; you can be a teacher; you can be sexy, flirty, fun, and even a little naughty at times. You can embrace all these wonderful facets of yourself, while still being an amazing mother. Motherhood is my top priority, but it’s not the only label I wear.”
Her “glamorous” track was featured in the soundtrack for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool and Wolverine last year.
