Divorce Delves into ‘Sexual Awakenings’ with New Single ‘Pill’

New Single Release

Divorce has shared a fresh single titled “Pill” – listen to it below.

This track serves as the latest glimpse into the Nottingham band’s debut studio album, Drive To Goldenhammer, set to release on March 7 via Gravity/Capitol (pre-order/save here).

Insights from the Co-Vocalist

“Pill” wasn’t composed in my apartment or city; it originated in Glasgow. It delves into the themes of sexual awakening and the exhilarating experience of being truly seen,” co-vocalist and guitarist Tiger Cohen-Towell shared.

“This song also reflects on a lengthy long-distance relationship that upheaved my life (and still does), alongside my bond with a nearby new location. It’s arguably one of the most peculiar tracks on the album, with its three sections showcasing various aspects of my unusual experiences,” he continued.

Cohen-Towell added: “From the outset, I aimed for this song to feature three distinct sections, and the band embraced that vision, fully immersing ourselves in the creative process. It felt gratifying to approach this emotionally steeped song with a professional mindset!”

Musical Style and Upcoming Album

Pulsating and dizzying, “Pill” features distorted guitars, strings, and an emotional piano interlude, as Divorce explores alt-country while unveiling a more theatrical element to their sound.

This release follows Divorce’s recent singles “All My Freaks” and ‘Antarctica’. Don’t forget to check out the official video above.

The album “Drive To Goldenhammer” was recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire with producer Catherine Marks (Boygenius, Foals, Wolf Alice). According to a press release, the album navigates “themes of transformation” while capturing “heartfelt emotions, wry humor, devastation, playfulness, and overwhelming feelings.”

“We take great pride in Drive To Goldenhammer. We ensured that the album reflects our vision, preserving its unique elements, warmth, and spontaneity,” Divorce commented in a previous statement.

“This album pays tribute to the quest for place and home; a universal need for humanity. Much of life runs counter to this desire. And in Goldenhammer, you are the reason we continue our journey. We will keep searching for you time and again!”

Divorce is set to tour the UK and Ireland this spring, culminating in a performance at KOKO in London. Find remaining tickets here. Check out the full tour schedule below.
