A Unique 90-Minute Mix by Andrew Wammall: Online Since 1997

A rare mix emerges

Since May 1997, a rare 90-minute mix by the late Andrew Weatherall has surfaced online, originally recorded during a club night in Liverpool.

The complete Pimols, which spans multiple electronic genres, was uploaded on X on Saturday (April 5) by Rave Archivist Dorksirjur from Manchester. This recording took place in May 1997 at Voodoo, the iconic club night held in Liverpool.

Voodoo and its legacy

According to Mixmag, Voodoo Night in Liverpool began in 1993, hosting regular events on the ground floor of the Clear nightclub on Mount Pleasant, featuring house and techno DJs and artists from around the globe.

Weatherall’s enduring influence

In NME’s obituary for Weatherall, who passed away in 2020 from a pulmonary embolism, Mark Beaumont wrote: “For many, he will be remembered as a figure of enlightenment, opening doors and breaking down barriers to awaken young minds to the vast possibilities of dance music. His enduring message remains: do not think, feel it.”

In 2022, Weatherall remixes were compiled into a new album for Celestial Records, divided into two parts: “Heavenly Remixes 3 – Andrew Weatherall Volume 1” and “Heavenly Remixes 4 – Andrew Weatherall Volume 2.” This collection features remixes by Scottish DJs and artists of original tracks from Mark Lanegan, Saint Etienne, Orbital, and more.

A short film detailing the story behind Weatherall’s mantra “Fail We May, Sail We Must” was also released. The film, directed by Trevor Whelan and Rua Migan of Grisli, and produced by the Dublin creative agency “Tenth Man,” takes the audience from London to Ireland to recount the history.

“We cannot thank those closest to Andrew enough for allowing us to create this film,” said Eric Davidson from Tenth Man. “This is a celebration of club culture, dance music, and the cultural connections that bind us all. More importantly, it is a tribute to an artist who was once in a generation, Andrew Weatherall.”
