YouTube Collaborates with Creative Artists Agency to Develop AI-Powered Deepfake Detection Tools

YouTube partners with CAA for AI content detection

YouTube will collaborate with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to develop a tool aimed at identifying AI-generated content, including AI-assisted deepfakes featuring famous faces.

As part of this collaboration, “several of the world's most influential figures” will have access to the technology being developed by YouTube to “identify and manage” AI-generated content.

“They will provide critical feedback that will help us build our detection systems and improve our controls.”

CAA’s influential representation

CAA is among the leading talent agencies in the United States, representing a host of renowned artists, including Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Charlie XCX, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Peso Pluma, Queen, Sabrina Carpenter, Shabuzi, and Weekend, among many others.

The agency also represents sports talents, and early next year, “top talent” from the NBA and NFL, along with “top celebrities,” will begin testing YouTube's tools designed to detect AI-generated content.

Notably, YouTube mentioned that the program with CAA—the first of its kind—marks “the first step of a larger testing effort,” with plans to recruit additional groups of testers, including YouTube creators, creative professionals, and “other leading partners representing talents.”

Building a responsible AI ecosystem

“CAA customers’ direct experience with digital copies in the evolving AI landscape will be critical to shaping a tool that responsibly empowers and protects creators and the broader YouTube community,” YouTube stated.

“At YouTube, we believe responsible AI starts with strong partnerships. We are excited to partner with CAA, an organization that shares our commitment to empowering artists and creators,” said Neil Mohan, CEO of YouTube.

“In the coming days, we will be working with CAA to ensure artists and creators can experience the incredible potential of artificial intelligence while maintaining creative control over their images. This partnership marks a significant step towards building that future.”

“Earlier this year, Neil and I began talking about the importance of creating a responsible AI ecosystem that protects artists while opening up new avenues for creative expression,” added Brian Lourd, CEO and Co-Chairman of CAA.

“At CAA, our conversations around AI center on ethics and talent rights, and we applaud YouTube's leadership for creating this talent-friendly solution that is fundamentally aligned with our goals.”

The partnership with CAA further reinforces YouTube's collaborative approach to AI development and management.

The company has engaged with artists, creators, and copyright holders on multiple projects, including its collaboration with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group last year to develop artificial intelligence tools related to music. Earlier this year, reports indicated that YouTube was negotiating with three major record labels to license music for its AI tools.

YouTube has also assumed a leadership role in safeguarding the rights of copyright holders in the age of artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, the platform launched a system enabling individuals to request the removal of content that imitates their appearance or voice.

Additionally, YouTube announced that AI-generated content on its platform must be labeled accordingly and has introduced new tools that allow users to alert viewers when content has been created by AI.
