The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Katie Crutchfield, performed in the viral series to promote her Grammy-nominated album “Tigers Blood.” In the uniquely decorated office setting, Crutchfield delivered a five-song set, featuring tracks like “Much Ado About Nothing” and “Fire.”
Reflections on Past Experiences
During her time in Tiny Desk, the artist reminisced about her initial debut on the show in 2013 while supporting “Cerulean Salt.” She expressed mixed feelings about that experience, saying, “I’ve been here before, it was about 11 years ago. I kind of rolled out of a tour van, I didn’t realize I was going to the NPR building, I didn’t even know what I was doing. My amp broke in the middle. I’m really excited to be back,” she shared with viewers.
Waxahatchee’s Tiny Desk set list included:
‘Much Ado About Nothing’
“Let’s Get Back to This”
‘Crowbar’
“Blood of the Tiger”
‘Fire’
Although this was her second appearance on the series, Crutchfield previously collaborated with Kevin Morby during his time in the Tiny Desk Concert Series (Home) in 2020 amid the pandemic.
In her Substack newsletter, Crutchfield reflected on her first NPR Tiny Desk performance and mentioned there was “some room for improvement.” She added, “It gives adorably green and inexperienced bangs that she cut in a hurry. It’s a nice little relic of my 20s, but I’m really glad I was given the opportunity to come back and do it again as an adult with my own band and some new songs.”
