Fury against the car, Guns N’ Roses, and System of the Down legends united as part of two fundraising events organized by Morello last week.

Event Highlights

The first event took place on Thursday (February 6) at the famous Blues House in Anaheim, while the second event was held on Friday (7) at the Foundation Theater in Los Angeles. In both instances, the audience was treated to the classic AC/DC track “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” originally released in 1976.

The trio performed multiple covers over the two nights, including songs by John Lennon, Rage Against the Machine, Bruce Springsteen, Woody Guthrie, Måneskin, and more.

A special guest for the nights was RZA from Wu-Tang Clan, who delivered a rendition of the group’s classic “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F’ Wit” from 1993. Check out the clips from the show below.

Performances with Slash and Odajyan were not the only charitable concerts that Tom Morello organized this year; it was recently confirmed that he will also be part of the extensive lineup for Black Sabbath in Birmingham this July for their final farewell show.

For this event, Morello will serve as the music director and will also perform on stage.

In an interview with NME at Villa Park shortly after the announcement of Black Sabbath’s last concert, Ozzy Osbourne’s wife and manager, Sharon, spoke about Morello’s involvement as music director, stating, “He knows his stuff across all different genres of music, but especially rock.”

She added that Morello will perform alongside Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and drummer Danny Carey, the latter of whom has yet to be confirmed in the original lineup.

AC/DC covers last week emerged after Tom Morello spoke with NME at the Download Festival last summer, sharing his thoughts on what he considers the greatest protest songs of all time.

“Some of my favorites are ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon—by the way, I stopped by Abbey Road, so it’s on my mind—‘Biko’ by Peter Gabriel, and ‘Fight the Power’ by Public Enemy. There are probably some Rage Against the Machine songs that would also make the list,” he began.

“A great protest song is first and foremost a great song. No one wants to receive a lecture during a concert; there should be artistry, authenticity, strength, and chemistry. All these songs have that,” he continued.

As for Shavo Odadjian, he recently spoke to NME about frontman Serj Tankian’s comments hinting that the band may embark on “a fresh start in a completely new direction.”

“I don’t know what he means. We’ve always taken our career in new directions. Whenever we create something new, it goes in an unforeseen direction. The process will reveal itself when we collaborate. If something works for one member but not for others, we won’t pursue it. It has to work for all four of us,” he explained.
