New Order Performs in Osaka
The iconic band New Order showcased their classic single “State of the Nation” for the first time since 1987 during an exhibition in Japan last night (February 25). Check out the details and the story below.
Concert Highlights
Yesterday, the Manchester Group delivered an 18-track concert at Zepp Namba in Osaka, ahead of their performance at Ariake Arena in Tokyo tomorrow (February 27).
During the main set, Bernard Sumner and his band performed “State of the Nation,” which initially appeared as a bonus track on the CD version of their fourth studio album, Brotherhood (1986).
The song was also released as a single, reaching number 30 in the UK and topping the indie chart in Great Britain.
Sharing a collection of official photos from the concert, New Order expressed their thoughts on the “unforgettable night in Osaka.” You can view the post below to see how the group performed “State of the Nation” for the first time in almost 40 years.

Last November, New Order released the “final” reissue of “Brotherhood” featuring a digitally remastered version of “State of the Nation,” along with the Japanese demonstration of the track.
Simultaneously, the band addressed rumors about an impending new album release and upcoming world tour details for 2025.
“We always want our fans to be updated on the latest news regarding New Order, and we will share official news on our social media and website first,” the post began. “We are aware of the rumors about the group releasing a new studio album and going on a world tour, but we want to clarify that this news is incorrect.”
Their tenth and most recent full-length album, Music Complete, was released in 2015. New Order returned in 2020 with their first new material in five years, a standalone single titled “Be a Bevel.”

When asked by NME in 2023 if new music was on the horizon, Sumner emphasized: “I like to work in winter these days, to be honest, because it is damn terrible.” Nonetheless, the frontman remained tight-lipped regarding any specific plans.
After their Japan dates this week, New Order will head to Australia for performances in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney. They are also set to headline the Kilby Block Party 2025 and Forel World Festival in the USA.
In other news, it was announced earlier this month that New Order has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025, alongside artists like Oasis, The White Stripes, Billy Idol, and Mariah Carey.
