Watch David Byrne, Arcade Fire, and St. Vincent Cover David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ for SNL50

Celebrating David Bowie

Official personnel were divided by David Burne, Arkad Firen, and St. Vincent, united for the performance of the “heroes” of David Bowie during the celebration of the 50th anniversary Saturday evening on the air Field.

Performance Highlights

Dressed in a black suit and a red turtleneck, Burn began the performance, taking the first verse of the track. St. Vincent, wearing a light pink dress and playing the white version of her branded guitar Ernie Ball Musicman, took on the second verse, while the victory of Arcade Fire, Butler, sang the third.

Then the group gathered to sing the rest of the song, including its cult bridge: “We can be heroes / only for one day”. Check the full performance below.

Arcade Fire had a great friendship with Bowie, starting with the fact that the rock icon appeared alongside Burn at the first concert of the indie group in New York at the Bowery Ballroom.

Later, Bowie joined Arcade Fire for the performance of the group’s “Wake Up” at Radio City Music Hall. In 2013, the icon also provided backing for the Arcade Fire track “Reflektor”.

Nirvana Tribute and More

In another segment of Saturday evening on the air, the surviving members of Nirvana united with Post Malone to perform the legendary track “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

SNL also celebrated a huge milestone with a star-studded episode, where Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon opened the show with “Homeward Bound,” which the latter performed in 1976 with George Harrison. The episode concluded with “Abbey Road,” performed by Paul McCartney.
