The film, released today (January 22), serves as a hypnotic partner to the band's 10th studio album, showcasing the diverse talents of over 150 artists from 45 different countries.

Creative Collaboration

Executive producer Ben Mohr describes the project as a “kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt” and a “44-minute multimedia tapestry.” Each artist was given select cuts from the album to inspire their unique visuals, resulting in a rich tapestry of creative expression.

Without any rules or guidelines, the artists were unaware of each other’s styles, leading to contributions that were a personal reflection of their own creativity.

A trailer for the film was revealed earlier this month, and today’s screening is now accessible on YouTube – watch below.

Later today, special 360-degree screenings will take place at Lightroom venues in London, Manchester, and Seoul, and a fan site for remixes of the film will be launched using Microsoft AI. Visit here for the remaining tickets to the shows.

“It was an absolute honor to get a bird's eye view of such an ambitious project and to collaborate with so many incredible animators and directors,” said Mohr. “The latest film is absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait for Coldplay fans to see it.”

“We are so grateful to all the amazing artists who contributed their talents to this film,” Coldplay commented. “They created something very beautiful, and we are very proud of it.”

Looking Ahead

This isn't the first collaboration for the producer with Chris Martin and the band, as they also teamed up for a film featuring Beyoncé nine years ago in the Anthem for the Weekend video.

Teasers for this film date back to 2019, when it was hinted on a car license plate for the band's Everyday Life album, and was briefly featured in the lyric video for “feelslikeimfallinginlove” last summer.

The release of this project coincides with the band’s preparations for a UK tour this summer, which will see them performing in stadiums in London and Hull. In a show of support for grassroots venues, 10 percent of their proceeds will be donated to the Music Venue Trust. Head here to purchase your remaining tickets.

Last year, Chris Martin spoke to NME for an exclusive interview regarding the new album, sharing insights on the band’s future. He mentioned that they see the end approaching in terms of releasing music in traditional formats, stating, “If it’s a good idea and it feels genuine, we’ll do it. It doesn’t matter what others think.”

Regarding the potential of concluding their discography after 12 albums, Martin expressed that “Releasing 12 albums is a real possibility and it feels good. That doesn't mean we won't tour or release compilations or outtakes; it just means the main story has been told. This is what feels really right.”

He also added that the impending deadline has motivated the band members to become “more hungry” in their creative process, ensuring they don’t “water down” their work.

You can check NME for the full interview with Chris Martin, where he also discusses his admiration for Fontaines DC, IDLES, Chappell Roan, the band’s monumental Glastonbury 2024 performance, and their commitment to supporting grassroots venues across the UK.
