Cara Delevingne Transforms into Elton John

Cara Delevingne transformed into Elton John for the new video “Step Into Christmas”; watch it below.

John has premiered a new video for his 1973 Christmas classic “Step Into Christmas”—except this time, Delevingne stars in a re-imagined version of what it would have been like behind the scenes of the original video.

The model is wearing a suit and glasses similar to those worn by the singer in the original video, released more than 50 years ago.

Collaboration Insights

Speaking about the collaboration, John said: “I saw Cara at Glastonbury last summer, and we were talking about how we’d love to work together if the right idea came along. She’s fun to hang out with, and we both have a pretty self-deprecating sense of humor. When someone suggested she play me in the riff from the 1973 ‘Step Into Christmas’ video, I thought it was the perfect opportunity.”

On its initial release, the track peaked at number 24 in the UK Top 40 and topped the Billboard Christmas singles chart.

Delevingne is not the first famous face John has invited to play him in a music video. In 2001, Justin Timberlake portrayed the legendary musician in the film This Train Don’t Stop Anymore. video.

Future Music Plans

Timberlake was reportedly considered for the role of Elton John in Rocketman – but the role eventually went to Taron Egerton. Talking to Hollywood Reporter, John’s husband and Rocketman Producer David Furnish said Timberlake was the first person the star thought of when he first started working on the film.

“We never formally approached Justin because we were never at the point where it was the right time to approach him,” Furnish explained.

“But he did an amazing job in the video. He put on a prosthetic nose, and it turned out to be a very interesting game too.”

In other Elton John news, he hinted at new music. He appeared as a guest on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night (December 17) to promote his new documentary, It’s Never Too Late.

He went on to reassure fans that he will “still be making records” and “has a future in music” as he focuses on his family life. “You’re going to get some more music,” John told host Colbert.
