This weekend (February 15), Panther took over Adidas Arena in Paris, France, where they performed many of their biggest hits. At the end of their set, frontman Phil Anselmo announced to the audience that the legendary Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson was in attendance.

As the band continued their performance, they launched into the hit song ‘Walk’. Midway through, Bruce Dickinson walked on stage, microphone in hand. He joined Anselmo to sing the iconic chorus of the track, and the band took a moment to bow to Dickinson in a gesture of respect.

Additionally, Pantera will return to the UK again in July, this time as a supporting act for the final performance by Black Sabbath in reunion. They will share the stage with acts like Metallica, Slayer, Gojira, Mastodon, and more, all of which are sold out for ticket availability.

Controversies Surrounding the Reformation

The Panther reformation has been overshadowed by controversies after Anselmo was accused of racism in recent years. In 2023, two major German festivals removed them from their line-up due to protests linked to past racism allegations, which also led to their canceled appearance in Vienna. They were scheduled to perform at Rock Am Ring and Rock IM Park but were confirmed to be disinvited after public outcry.

The racism allegations date back to 2016 when frontman Anselmo faced backlash for making a Nazi salute and shouting “white power” during an incident.

Anselmo initially downplayed his actions as a “joke” but later stated, “Every person around the world has an unalienable right to live with dignity and respect, free from hatred or oppression. And I truly mean this, with my deeply pained, yet guilty heart.”

“It is well known that we can either learn from our mistakes or continue on a path of insensitivity and destruction. I take responsibility for my actions and can only give my word that I will not repeat them, through action, not just words.”

His actions were condemned by many in the music community at the time, including Machine Head frontman Rob Flynn, who criticized Anselmo, calling him a “hooligan” and remarked, “I was there, and I can tell you the only thing visible on stage was Phil Anselmo drinking German beer. Maybe that’s where the joke came from.”
