White Maloni was a contestant on the American version of the reality talent show The Voice in 2014. He was coached by Blake Shelton and reached the top five finalists as a country singer and songwriter.

During his blind auditions, the late singer received a turn from all four judges—Shelton, Adam Levine, Usher, and Shakira—for his cover of “Lights” by Ellie Goulding.

White Maloni was eliminated from NBC‘s singing competition during the playoff rounds but later returned for the finale of the sixth season later that year.

“Struggling financially, scavenging for food from hotel dumpsters while those around me were with their families on vacation, I stood there, trembling with fear, just trying to survive.”

He continued: “The secret I kept from everyone—a few minutes before going on stage, I not only lost my voice the day before, but my tears flowed down my face. Fortunately, my parents were there to witness my performance.

“To the audience, I was just another act on the show, but for me, this moment was a fight for my future, proof of my commitment to my craft. Perseverance is key—never doubt, never give up!”

In a later post, White Maloni described his performance in the finale of The Voice as “the best time of my life.”
