Details About The Upcoming Series
Titled Mussolini: Son of the Century, this upcoming series will feature eight episodes and is set to premiere on Sky from February 4. Dedicated to the Italian fascist dictator, the series is adapted from Antonio Scurati’s best-selling book published in 2018.
Directed by BAFTA award winner Joe Wright, the film stars Luca Marinelli in the title role and aims to explore the “political and personal relationships” maintained by Benito Mussolini.
Prior to the series debut, a soundtrack crafted by Tom Rowlands was released. Available now from Milan Records, this marks not the first time Rowlands has created a soundtrack; he previously did so for the 2011 action film Hannah, featuring Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett, and again in 2017 for the theatrical performance of Life of Galileo.

In a recent statement, Rowlands reflected on the time spent developing the soundtrack, stating (via DJ Magician): “I really enjoy working with Joe; he’s an incredible director. He is a master of his craft, and bringing his vision to life through music is always an exciting challenge.”
He added: “Much of this original soundtrack was built around playing old acoustic instruments using modern electronics; working in this way helped me refer to the past while creating something fresh and dynamic.”
Director Joe Wright also commented, “What really impresses me about Mussolini is that, in my opinion, he represents masculinity at its worst. Mussolini dug out the worst parts of himself and used them to gain power.”
The Chemical Brothers, comprising Rowlands and Ed Simons, released their latest studio album, titled “For That Beautiful Feeling,” in September 2023. This became their 10th record and earned a Grammy that same year for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.
In a four-star review, NME wrote: “After completing their journey into another world, the hypnotic closing track reinterprets the album’s intro as a soothing descent to Earth, its cinematic synths and ominous drums fading away to leave only Halo Maud’s a capella vocals – an after-party slump after an endlessly exhilarating journey into electronic utopia. On their 10th album, The Chemical Brothers remain the best in the business.”
Shortly afterwards, the duo announced a special event in London to promote their book, Pause in Space Reflection. This book is the “complete history” of the band, published by White Rabbit, and contains hundreds of hours of interviews about their 30-year career, alongside never-before-seen photographs from their archives.
