Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s “Kneepad” Among Films Featured in Oscar Shortlists

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has unveiled the shortlists for the Best Original Song and Best Original Score categories for the 2025 Oscars.

Notable Entries in Best Original Song

Among the 15 songs nominated in the Best Original Song category are Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’s “Compress/Repress” from “Challengers.” The duo has also been shortlisted for Best Original Score for the same film.

Actress Saoirse Ronan makes her music debut with the song “Winter Coat” from the film Blitz, while the Irish hip-hop group Kneecap is recognized for “Sick In The Head” from the film of the same name. The shortlist also features contributions from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Pharrell Williams, Elton John with Brandi Carlile, and Barlow & Bear.

Acclaimed Composers in Best Original Score

The Best Original Score category showcases esteemed composers such as Danny Elfman for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Hans Zimmer for “Blitz,” and Daniel Bloomberg for “The Brutalist.” Additionally, Bryce Dessner is nominated for “Sing Sing,” while Kris Bowers receives recognition for “Wild Robot.”

The 2025 Oscars are scheduled to take place on March 2 and will be hosted by Conan O’Brien. The event will be broadcast on ABC and, for the first time, on Hulu.
