TOP’s Return to Music
The former Big Bang TOP member hinted at his return to music this year, which he described as his “responsibility as a musician.”
Upcoming Projects and Reflections
TOP recently conducted an interview with NME in connection with the premiere of Squid Game season two in December, where he plays the character Thanos. His appearance in the hit Netflix series marks his first project since he announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in 2020 after facing charges related to smoking marijuana at home.
While his role in Squid Game signifies his return to the entertainment scene, TOP mentioned that he has “no specific ideas” regarding future acting gigs. “What I hope to do now is share with the world’s TOP – me as a musician – because I will be sharing my music (for the first time) in almost ten years,” he revealed to NME.
The multi-hyphenate explained that returning to the studio and creating music was pivotal for his healing journey. “To literally live, I started creating music,” TOP disclosed. “That’s when I learned this: It was only when I was making music (or) standing in front of a microphone that I could breathe.”
When inquired about what fans can expect from his musical comeback, TOP expressed that “part of my responsibility as a musician” is to share what he has created thus far. “Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time really reflecting and regretting what I’ve done, and I’ve also spent a lot of time introspecting,” the K-pop idol elaborated.
“I believe my musical universe has evolved significantly over the years. I feel like my music has become richer and expanded in scope, so I’m pretty sure my fans will sense that I’ve matured musically.”
