Premiere Experience
The actor caught attention at a BFI event on Tuesday (January 14) with his unusual choice of transportation. The star, who portrayed Bob Dylan in the biopic, arrived at the premiere on a green Lime electric bike and cycled down the red carpet.
Upon arriving, Chalamet dismounted from his bike and continued the journey using his mobile phone. He later hopped back on the bike to take a few more pictures at the request of the media.
In a recent interview, the star discussed his unique arrival and the fine he faced shortly thereafter. While promoting the biopic on a French talk show Daily (as reported by Diversity), he recounted how he was fined £60 for failing to park his bike properly.
Social Media Buzz
This isn’t Chalamet’s first viral moment while promoting Complete unknown. As highlighted by Diversity, he has also gained traction on social media since co-hosting the ESPN show College Game Day and recreating some of Bob Dylan’s iconic images.
The film is set to hit UK cinemas tomorrow (January 17th), coinciding with its release. NME has published a special print magazine dedicated to the film and Dylan’s legacy. The 26-page review is currently available—check it out here.
NME rated Complete unknown four stars, stating, “The most important (and often the most difficult) task of any musical film is getting the score right. And this is the nail. If you’re new to Bob, you’ll leave the theater ready to dive into its back catalogue. If you’re a fan, you’ll spend the next few weeks compiling playlists of lesser-known B-sides or pursuing stories about scenes you weren’t familiar with. And that’s why making this film was a good idea—a crazy idea, but a good idea.”
Dylan also contributed to the film’s development by consulting with director Jim Mangold, praising Chalamet as a “brilliant actor.”
In a conversation with NME, Chalamet spoke about his role preparation and the significant amount of time he dedicated to embodying the character. “I had time to work 10,000 hours,” he said. “There was no set deadline for this. I didn’t study for anyone else. I studied for myself.”
“Someone mentioned that Dylan was ‘a man who didn’t give a damn about other people,'” he reflected on the legendary singer-songwriter. “I don’t think that’s true. He cared about his art and never pretended he didn’t.”
