The Academy Award-nominated actor was the latest guest to be interviewed by Nardwuar on YouTube, and during the chat, Chalamet praised rapper Lil B after being asked about being knighted.

“Lil B The Basedgod, I was recently telling Tyler, the Creator about this on set because Tyler had no idea I was knighted by Lil B and then he said he could feel my aura and that it was emanating from someone – the one who was knighted by Lil B. Lil B,” he began.

He continued, “Lil B has played a huge role in my life and career. He released an album called “I'm Gay (I'm Happy)” and the release was very ambiguous regarding his sexual orientation and the meaning of the album. I was just inspired by the feeling of, “Wow, this guy is just doing whatever the hell he wants,” and it was really cool for me at the time and for that genre of hip-hop that he was everywhere. Love Lil B, shout out to Lil B.

The Knighting Moment

“I met him at New York University. I had $50 from a commercial I did, so I bribed a kid to give me a ticket. You know, I was there alone, in the first row on the right. I raised my hand, he called me and said I wanted to invite my love, and he invited me on stage, knighted me and, frankly, said: “This boy's hand has been blessed,” and from that moment my acting career soared. Thank you, Basegod. Before that, I had difficulties, and then when I was 22, I was nominated for an Oscar. Hey Lil B, nothing is possible without Lil B. Pray to the Master God.”

In the video clip, the Dune actor took the stage and was knighted by the rapper. Chalamet then kissed his hand and walked off stage as the crowd applauded them both. “This is my brother,” Lil B told the crowd. “His hand is golden.”

Lil B recently took to X/Twitter to acknowledge the actor’s gratitude for his success and shared a clip of Chalamet being knighted, tweeting, “LEGACY AND LOVE! – Lil B.

Chalamet’s Growing Legacy

Chalamet’s portrayal of Elio Perlman in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 film Call Me by Your Name earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, making him the third-youngest nominee in that category and the youngest since 19-year-old Mickey Rooney in 1939.

Since then, he has received numerous award nominations, most recently being nominated for the 2025 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his role as Bob Dylan in the 2025 Golden Globe Award-winning film Complete Unknown.

In NME, Alex Flood, who reviewed the film with four stars, wrote: “The most important (and often the most difficult) task of any musical film is getting the score right. And this is the nail. If you're new to Bob, you'll leave the theater ready to dive into its back catalogue.

“If you're already a fan, you'll spend the next few weeks putting together playlists of lesser-known B-sides or reading up on the history of a scene you weren't familiar with. And that’s why making this movie was a good idea—a crazy idea, but a good idea.”

In other news, Chalamet directly introduced Dylan at the New York premiere of Total Unknown earlier this month, sporting facial hair, blonde locks, a leather jacket, and a gray scarf.

During his preparation for the film, the actor also learned to play 30 songs from Dylan’s catalog and trained with a vocal coach, a guitar coach, a dialect coach, a movement coach, and a harmonica coach.

Dylan recently praised Chalamet’s efforts in the film and said: “Timmy is a brilliant actor, so I'm sure he will be completely believable, as am I. Or I'm younger. Or some other me.”

He continued: “The film is based on an Elijah Wald book, Dylan Goes Electric – a fantastic retelling of the events of the early 60s that led to the Newport fiasco. After you've seen the movie, read the book.”

Chalamet has since responded to the praise by quoting Dylan’s Twitter post. “Shocked,” he wrote. “I'm so grateful. Thanks Bob.”
