Chalamet’s Preparation for His Role

Not only did the Call Me By Your Name star learn to play 30 songs in preparation for his role in the Dylan biopic, but he also took lessons from a vocal, guitar, dialect, movement, and even a harmonica teacher. He elevated the homage by bringing the Bard to the carpet.

The actor appeared at an event in New York last night (December 13) and recalled Dylan’s iconic look from decades ago when he attended the premiere of his film Masked and Anonymous in 2003.

Chalamet styled his outfit meticulously, featuring facial hair, blonde locks, a leather jacket, and a gray scarf that divided fans’ opinions.

While some declared the tribute is “everything” and made jokes about the “male version of Substance“, others contended that it was a tactic lifted from the Barbie press tour and did not align with the Dylan biopic’s theme.

Bob Dylan’s Praise for Chalamet

Dylan recently praised Chalamet’s efforts, stating, “Timmy is a brilliant actor, so I’m sure he will be completely believable, as am I. Or I’m younger. Or some other me.”

He added, “The film is taken from an Elijah Wald book, Dylan Goes Electric—a fantastic retelling of the events of the early 60s that led to the Newport fiasco. After you’ve seen the movie, read the book.”

Chalamet responded to the praise by quoting Dylan’s Twitter post, saying, “Shocked. I’m so grateful. Thank you, Bob.”

In NME, Alex Flood, who reviewed the film with four stars, remarked: “The most important (and often the most difficult) task of any musical film is getting the score right. And this is the nail. If you’re new to Bob, you’ll leave the theater ready to dive into his back catalogue.

“If you’re already a fan, you’ll spend the next few weeks compiling playlists of lesser-known B-sides or learning about the history of a scene you weren’t familiar with. And that’s why making this movie was a good idea—a crazy idea, but a good idea.”
