Creative Insights and Shared Connections

The two share a connection to Bob Dylan, as Chalamet portrays the singer in the biographical film Full Unknown. Meanwhile, Lamar reflects on the “Ray Charles song that Dylan has passed in his track ‘Ballad of a Thin Person’.”

In a three-and-a-half-minute clip shared by the NFL on X (formerly Twitter), Chalamet expressed his admiration for Lamar’s success, stating he has always been a fan. “Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing how, look where you are now, dude,” he said. “This is just crazy, a show in the break of the Super Bowl. And you just continue to climb, brother. It’s so amazing.”

During their conversation, both men also discussed their creative processes. Chalamet noted: “The fact is that the acting game is that if you do not have an audience, this is just a form of madness. And what are you doing? … So I definitely try to warm up, and then, you know, you lose this self-consciousness when you finally get back. But it takes time.”

He continued: “I always try to embrace failure – you talked about this the other day – the most important part of a bad day is how you move past it. If you can leave a bad take or a rough day with a positive attitude, then you have nothing to fear.”

Lamar discussed his approach to songwriting, stating: “I have to hold the pen to keep moving. This is my form of sanity … And it also gives me the opportunity to recognize myself, you know, to find out who I am.”

He also mentioned the importance of “sitting with emotions and being vulnerable to them,” adding: “Many of these records that I write, dude, are things that I would probably never have expressed or even recognized about myself if it weren’t for the instrumental.”

Last month, Lamar confirmed that SZA would join him as a special guest for his performance in the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Meanwhile, Timothée Chalamet recently revealed that he gained 20 pounds to portray Bob Dylan in Full Unknown.
