Overview of the Enmity
Timofei Chatty analyzed the ongoing rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
Recent Developments in the Beef
The tension between the two rappers dates back to 2013, but it escalated significantly last year with a series of diss tracks, culminating in “Not Like Us,” which is widely regarded as the highlight of their feud.
“Not Like Us” became Lamar’s fourth number one single, setting multiple streaming records and winning five Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.
Recently, actor Timothée Chalamet expressed his thoughts on Lamar’s success. In an interview with journalist Judit Dasilva, he explored the public’s perception of the rivalry.
“I think that in addition to the quality of the music in this competition, we witnessed how pop culture as a whole rallied behind the Nobel and Pulitzer figure,” he remarked, referencing Lamar.

The interview took place after Lamar and Chalamet collaborated to perform some of the rapper’s deep tracks in a joint interview. Recorded for the NFL network, the video features the two in a GNX car—named after Lamar’s 2024 album—performing “Heart PT. 2” from 2010, “Overly Dedicated,” and “Kush & Corinthians” from the 2011 mixtape “80.”
The first part of the video showcased Chalamet’s admiration for Lamar, stating, “I’ll be a fan of your music forever, and just seeing where you are now is incredible.” He added, “It’s just wild—your Super Bowl Halftime Show, and you just keep rising, brother. It’s truly amazing.”
The connection between the two stars continued even after Lamar’s notable Super Bowl performance, where it was revealed that the designer jeans worn by the rapper during the show were originally intended for Chalamet.
According to an insider who shared a statement with Page Six, the stylist for Lamar, Taylor McNele, had initially provided a pair of female jeans for the actor. However, by coincidence, they ended up fitting the rapper perfectly, making their debut on stage.
“Not Like Us” was recognized as the second-best song of 2024 by NME, which noted: “’Not Like Us’ explores the character’s complexities in a cruel, rapidly evolving DJ scene, built on a catchy beat. Although his fierce, accusatory lyrics captured headlines, it served as a dissection of Lamar’s portrayal of Drake as a ‘Colonizer’, emphasizing his authentic artistry.”
