Slang Appoints Tiara Hargrave as General Director

Slang, the front-leable launched by Intelligence Media Partners in July 2024, has named Tiara Hargrave as its general director.

Based in New York, Hargrave, a seasoned veteran in the music industry, will oversee operations and drive strategic initiatives to bolster SLANG. On Thursday (February 6), her growth will be influenced by the media.

Experience and Impact in the Music Industry

Before joining Slang, Hargrave served as executive vice president and general director at Sony Music—Thereed Alamo Records, where she played a pivotal role in propelling artists like Lil Nas X, Lil Durk, and Kid Cudi to global acclaim. Her background also features significant roles at Columbia Records, Universal Music Group, and Red Bull, where she honed her expertise in marketing, advertising, and artist development.

Slang’s Growing Influence in the Music Industry

Hargrave’s arrival comes as Slang, which launched seven months ago, is making significant waves in the music industry. The label facilitated Will Smith‘s first gospel song to reach number one with You Can Do This and supported the viral success of emerging rapper True Bull with You Make Noise.

The Slang roster includes an array of artists and producers, featuring Oscar and Grammy Award winner Will Smith, multi-platinum producer Tourist (known for hits with Jay-Z, Drake, and Nicki Minaj), and Grammy-winning producer 30 ROC, known for Roddy Ricch’s certified diamond hit Box. The label is also home to emerging talents like rapper Sheet, Flatbush rap duo Untroded, Atlanta rapper Raper Pravda, developing artist, songwriter, and producer Isaiah Guron, and underground Atlanta rapper Ry XP.

Founded in 2019, the media company is led by Lilett Pizarro, Lynn Khazan, Rene Maclin, and John Jashny.

The company has made over 30 investments in music rights, including rights for artists like Enrique Iglesias, country superstar Blake Shelton, production team Stereotypes, singer-songwriter Jesse Reyes, and songwriter Julia Michaels, among others.

In early 2022, the company announced a $750 million fund backed by BlackRock Alternative Investors and Warner Music Group to invest in what they call “high compositions from various artists.”

Last month, Media Influence confirmed it provided approximately $360 million in debt financing through its first private securitization, generating royalties from its music rights portfolio.
