About the Album

This will mark the Southend band’s first release in six years, following their 2019 album, “Inside the Rose.” The new album is set to drop on May 23 via Domino and is available for pre-order here in various formats, including digital, CD, and vinyl.

Fans got a preview of the album with the song “Industrial Song of Love,” where two cranes sing to one another. Jack Barnett represents one crane, while the invited vocalist Polachek takes on the role of the other crane.

“An industrial song about love is a duet between two cranes at the construction site,” Barnett explained. “Caroline sings one part, while I sing the other; they cannot touch (their movements are controlled by the operator), but when the sun rises, they hope that their shadows will cross. I appreciate how George titled it reflecting the anticipation of a mistake—it feels less industrial.”

“It’s challenging to attach a specific time period to this song,” George Barnett added. “It’s progressive music crafted with instruments that have existed for centuries.”

“As we move away from the mechanical age, we realize how much we share with our machines, and how human they can feel,” Jack continued. “Suddenly, it doesn’t seem absurd to write a love song from their perspective.”
