Reported Changes to Tour Schedule

According to various reports from outlets, including Time, the famous group opted for a return to touring at the end of this year. This decision came after the proposed stop at the multimillion-pound Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, amidst other shows scheduled throughout Europe.

The remaining members of the group—Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood—were reportedly presented with multiple options for shows in 2025, but these were soon rejected due to complications related to venue availability, travel, and pre-existing commitments.

Reportedly, the options included visits to Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and four concerts at the aforementioned Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Hopes for a tour arose after the rock veterans released “Hackney Diamonds” in 2023—their 24th studio album and the first new material since 2005. This album featured guest performances from Lady Gaga, Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder and highlighted the final contributions of the late drummer Charlie Watts.

The group previously took new material on the road, playing 20 massive concerts in North America last year. Reports indicated that 880,000 tickets were sold for these concerts, generating approximately $235 million (185.1 million pounds), making it one of the top music events in 2024.

While it seems unlikely that the Stones will perform in the UK and Europe by the end of this year, a report from Time claims that the artists are still hoping to tour this side of the globe in 2026.

If the tour goes ahead, it will mark the first time the trio has played in the UK since 2022. NME has reached out to the group’s representative for comments.

In other news, Ronnie Wood recently made a surprise appearance at a Paul McCartney show in London, joining the legendary Beatles member on stage to perform “Get Back.”

This summer, he is also expected to appear as a potential surprise guest for the Stewart family, as they prepare for their performance at the Glastonbury Legends slot in 2025. They were recently seen together at the celebration of Stewart’s 80th birthday.

In a four-star review of “Hackney Diamonds,” NME described it as an “Absolute Barnstormer,” adding: “And if ‘Hackney Diamonds’ concludes the most successful career in rock music, that would not be a bad place to leave it. The natural end, but definitely not ordinary.”

Ronnie Wood also spoke with NME about the “explosive” songs on the album and how they will translate to live performances. “I have complete faith. We could play the whole album, you know what I mean? But (Mick and Keith) might say, ‘Oh, not Ron, it’s too ambitious.’ We won’t be neglecting the back catalog,” he stated.

In October of last year, former Stones bassist Bill Wyman commented on how he, Watts, and Wood only “scratched” the surface during their time with the group in the 80s and early 90s, revealing that he had wished to leave the band earlier than 1993.
