Upcoming Tour Announcement
The Down system has promised to “radically” change their setlists for the upcoming 2025 tour.
Last December, the Dowun system revealed their longest tour dates in recent years, with plans to hit South America in April and May, followed by North America in August and September.
All tour dates have sold out, marking the first time since 2017 that the group has engaged in such extensive performances after previously playing only one or two shows occasionally.
Setlist Variations and Rehearsals
Bassist Shavo Odadjiang stated that these shows are intended to gauge the waters following a one-time performance. “The relationship was not as great as now. It was simply not on one page. We talked. Everything is fine, knock on wood. Everyone is happy,” he shared with SiriusXM Nation of a Chest with Eddie Tank in January.
In a recent interview with SNSMIX.com, Odadjiang mentioned that each show would feature different setlists every night.
“We probably will dramatically change the setlist between each show, so if you attend both shows, you’ll hear different songs,” Odadjiang explained.
“We plan to perform for two hours, going through our extensive catalog. We have over 70 songs, and we aim to perform 27 to 30 of them, mixing and matching as we go.”
“Our rehearsals will be extensive, allowing us to know a lot of songs, and then we can switch things up frequently, avoiding repetition.”

Future of New Music
Regarding the potential for new music during the tour, Odadjiang clarified in January that nothing was set in stone, as reported by Blabbermouth: “I can’t make any promises. We haven’t committed to anything. As I mentioned, there’s no pressure.”
“We said, ‘Let’s get together and play these shows, see how it goes.’ This year, we will perform more shows than we have in the past seven years combined. So, let’s focus on that and see where it leads us.”
The band has not released an album since their 2005 works, Mezmerize and Hypnotize. In a recent conversation with Metal Hammer, frontman Serj Tankian mentioned feeling “very passive” during the writing and recording processes.
While Odadjiang expressed uncertainty over what Tankian meant by his comments in December, he maintained that hopes for new music remain minimal.

“I’m unsure what he means,” said Odadjiang. “Throughout our career, we have always taken new directions. When we create something new, it often goes in ways you wouldn’t expect. We’ll need to see how it unfolds when we come together. If it works for one member but not for others, we won’t proceed. It has to work for all four of us.”
In January, guitarist Daron Malakian confessed on his podcast that he “wasn’t sure how much I want” a new System of a Down album at this point.
“It would be interesting to see where the band could evolve if we continued to release music. But if we put out an album now, it would feel too detached from Mezmerize and Hypnotize; it doesn’t continue the story in my view.”
