Insights from Tom Clark and Andy Hopkins

In a press release about the upcoming tour, frontman Tom Clark shared: “We have spent many days in the studio recording new material, and we’re excited to hit the road again. Our plan is to experiment with some new melodies, possibly varying them across different shows to see how audiences react and what resonates with fans, which will help shape the final tracklist for the record that is nearing completion.”

Bassist Andy Hopkins also expressed his enthusiasm for the tour, saying: “My favorite part of being in the band is the nights spent with fans where the atmosphere is electric. I believe this tour will be genuinely special for us. For many of these cities, it’s been a while since we’ve returned to venues that hold a significant place in our journey—like the Electric Ballroom, our first gig in London supporting The Fratellis, where I transported all the amplifiers and guitars in my Fiesta!”

Reflecting on their anticipated return album with NME, Clark stated: “We started writing about a year ago, carefully sketching a few ideas and exploring how it could sound. There was a pause, and when we returned, freedom opened up.”

“All these ringing songs came out, and it felt like a new beginning before the demands: ‘We need another.’ When you dissect them, many songs from ‘We with live and me Whit in these cities’ are rather peculiar. We rediscovered that oddity. We showcased songs in our home studios, and two weeks later, we went into the studio with our producer Matt Terry.”

When asked about how the new music sounds, Clark said: “It has that grand anthem feel of the enemy’s foundational identity under something strange.” He added: “Yes, but without trying. I find what annoys me about our third album, “Street in the sky,” is that you can hear it was written in a hurry. There was a record label sound: ‘We have a limited budget, so we need XYZ from you.’ This record embodies the formula of: ‘If you want it, this is your budget.’”

“After we wrote our first album, we were not signed. There was no committee involved, and that made a crucial difference. We’re now far freer to pursue what we want to do. We’ve all agreed that it should come out next year, but we’re doing this at our own pace, saying: ‘What if the choir doesn’t hit in 70 seconds?’”
