Metric Exits Bloc Party Tour
The metric has withdrawn from their scheduled tour in the United States with Bloc Party, citing that the latter’s team “made some sudden production decisions” that breached their agreement.
Tour Milestones
A set of shows was intended to commemorate the groups’ first tour together since 2006, with both bands hitting significant career milestones. Bloc Party celebrated the 20th anniversary of their original debut album, *Silent Alarm*, while Metric sought to highlight their 2009 album, *Fantasies*.
Initially, the exhibitions were supposed to commence on May 10. However, Metric announced on April 11 that they would be exiting the tour.
They shared this update via an Instagram statement, mentioning that both groups and their respective teams had reached an agreement to collaborate on a special live show.
They claimed that this agreement was violated: “The Bloc Party team made some sudden production decisions that violated the agreement we reached, which left us unable to continue, despite all our efforts to find resolutions,” the statement noted.
NME reached out to representatives of Bloc Party for comments.
Although the groups will no longer share the stage, each will continue their own shows with different supporting acts. Metric confirmed that their scheduled performance in Toronto on June 6 will still proceed without Bloc Party, with Sam Roberts joining them to perform his 2003 album, *We Were Born in the Flame*. They have also added new dates in Ottawa, Quebec City, and Montreal.
Meanwhile, Bloc Party will continue their tour without the Toronto show on June 6, with Blonde Redhead joining the lineup, as confirmed in a video on Instagram.
Fans can request refunds “if desired”; those who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster or AXS have 30 days to submit a return request.
Bloc Party’s plan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of *Silent Alarm* followed reports last year about the group performing the album in its entirety. This was in line with the announcement of *Live in 2025* in Leeds.
They previously staged a special anniversary show in London last summer, where they played at Crystal Palace Park to a crowd of 25,000 people over two hours.
The last release from Bloc Party was the 2022 album *Alfa -Ingra*. In a three-star review, NME noted: “*Alfa -IGR* showcases Bloc Party’s continued relevance since their emergence in the 00s, without delving into nostalgia. With fresh energy and a desire to innovate, this sixth album appeals to a new generation of Indie-Disco.”
Since their last LP, Gordon Moakes, the former Bloc Party bassist, has formed a new group called None and announced a new EP titled *Care*. Frontman Kele Okereke is set to release a new solo album, *The Singing Winds PT. 3*, along with the lead single “It Shouldn’t Be.”
On the other hand, Metric released their latest record, *Formentera II*, in 2023, featuring singles such as “Nothing Perfect,” “Who Would You Be for Me,” and “Only This One Day.”
Emily Haynes spoke with NME about how this album relates to its predecessor, *Formentera*, stating: “All 18 songs were created over a similar timeframe from 2020 to 2023. We revisited this work in 2022, trying to determine the best way to release it.”
“There wasn’t a straightforward way to release everything at once, and it wasn’t very enjoyable to inform everyone about new releases. Thus, we opted for a surprise announcement on the anniversary of the first album.”
