The Lumineers Unveil Fifth Album “Automatic” Alongside New Single “Same Old Song”

The Lumineers Announce New Album

The Lumineers have revealed their fifth studio album, titled Automatic. You can listen to the single “Same Old Song” below.

The American indie folk duo, consisting of Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites, will launch the 11-track LP on February 14 via Dualtone, following their 2022 release, Brightside. Pre-order/save here.

“This album marks 20 years of collaboration between Jeremiah and me,” Schultz stated in a recent announcement.

“The album delves into some of the absurdities of the modern world, such as the increasingly blurred line between reality and illusion, and the myriad ways we overwhelm ourselves in our efforts to navigate both boredom and overstimulation.”

The Creative Process

“Automatic” was recorded in under a month, and Schultz remarked that the project is “very reminiscent of that era.” Fraites added that the record carries a “palpable sense of connection between me and Wes,” emphasizing, “There’s a lot of love in this record.”

The duo collaborated on the album with David Baron and Simone Felice, drawing inspiration from Peter Jackson’s 2021 Beatles documentary, Get Back.

This LP is considered “The Lumineers’ rawest and most personal collection” to date. “People who think they have our number are going to be surprised,” Fraites shared.

The description reads: “While tracks like the low-key ‘Asshole’ and the minimalist, witty ‘Better Day’ venture into risky intimacy and explore previously untapped currents of humor, ‘Automatic’ retains what fans around the world appreciate about The Lumineers: dark themes veiled in upbeat, catchy melodies and soaring choruses destined to be sung by tens of thousands every night on stage.”
