Lorde Confirms New Single
Lorde has officially announced her upcoming single “what it was.”

This revelation follows the singer’s subtle hints about new material at the end of last year, including the deletion of her social media accounts, which led fans to speculate that a new chapter was on the horizon. Lorde also shared a brief one-second clip of new music, along with several studio photographs, captioned: “She will contact.”
The clues continued into 2025, as she dismantled her website and shared a TikTok clip earlier this month, where she strolled through Washington Square Park in New York, accompanied by a new track featuring the lyrics: “From the age of 17, I gave you everything / now we wake up from a dream, well, baby, what was it? / What was it?”
Earlier today, the singer informed fans that “all this one will change,” likely hinting at the release of her new single “what it was.”
In an Instagram post featuring a photo of herself with water dripping down her face, Lorde mentioned that the new single would arrive “soon.” However, her Spotify biography now states “04.25,” suggesting new music could drop on April 25.
Ongoing Speculations
As previously mentioned, ongoing updates stem from speculations that began in 2023. Besides sharing a fleeting second of new music, Lorde hinted in an Instagram post that she was working on new material. She promised fans that she would share something in 2023, stating: “No, this is not the beginning of something -liba, I just want you to know that there is light inside me … show me it soon.”
The artist, known for her album releases every four years, debuted with 2013’s “Pure Heroine,” followed by “Melodrama” in 2017, and most recently, “Solar Power” in 2021.
She also released new music through collaborations in 2025. Earlier this year, she and Marlon Williams collaborated on “Cacher,” which Lorde described as “one of my favorite classes on Earth.”
