The Lonely Island Reveals That Justin Timberlake Didn’t Actually Perform During His Staff’s Religious Event

The Lonely Island’s Revelation

The Lonely Island revealed that Justin Timberlake never actually sang on one of his biggest hits.

Collaboration with Timberlake

During a Saturday Night Live performance, the comedy trio, consisting of Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Georma Takono, collaborated with Timberlake, first on their iconic “Dick in a Box” in 2006, and then again on the video for “Jizz in My Pants,” featured in their debut album “Incredibad.”

However, in a recent episode of the Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, Shaffer confirmed that Timberlake does not actually sing on “Jizz in My Pants.”

“Timberlake helped us immensely. I recall how people on the internet assumed, ‘Timberlake sings with them at the end,’ probably thinking that we couldn’t pull it off,” he mentioned.

“I think it’s just Andy. I’m not even sure if I sing it,” replied the family member, to which Samberg interjected, “No.”

“It’s just Andy,” the family member continued. “But they simply didn’t believe we had the know-how to sound that good because (Justin) was the one who taught us.”

The trio also mentioned that they couldn’t recall how Timberlake’s cameo as a grocery store clerk in the video came about, but noted that his involvement gave them a “tremendous boost.”

“He gave us significant credibility,” Samberg recalled. “I remember when that video aired, and we said, ‘I will read everything that’s written about us online. I will check it all.’ And every headline mentioned Justin.”

“The fact that he did it, just to put his stamp on this, is tough to quantify how monumental that is,” Shaffer added. “It provided us with a huge boost.”

Troubles on Timberlake’s Tour

Recently, some of the hits from the trio were revisited during Saturday Night Live’s SNL 50: Return Home event, where Samberg teamed up with Lady Gaga for an unexpected performance of “Dick in a Box.”

Meanwhile, Timberlake’s recent tour “The Man of the Woods” has been overshadowed by health issues and injuries. Last October, he postponed six North American shows after being diagnosed with bronchitis and laryngitis, just weeks after canceling another show in Newark just hours before it was set to start, due to an “injury that prevents me from performing.” In December, he canceled a performance in Oklahoma City after sustaining a back injury.

More recently, he also canceled a few shows in Ohio. Later this year, Timberlake will head to the UK. Check the full list of tour dates here and get tickets here.
