Controversy at the Brit Awards
Last Saturday (March 1), the Brit Awards took place, where Stormzy controversially won the HIP-HOP/GRIME/RAP ACT Award, despite only releasing two songs in the past year. While on stage, rapper Kradona thanked God before stating: “A great pursuit and status, because (their number one collaboration in the UK 2024) is the only reason I am here.”
“I appreciate everyone who voted for me and I love the British community. However, I believe this award shouldn’t be decided by fans,” he continued. “I do not think any award should be given based on fan votes as it doesn’t allow everyone to share their own moments. I believe Sench was the rap artist of the year, but these accolades don’t define us … “

In response on Instagram, Ybeeez remarked: “I crossed paths with Stormzy regarding the British victory, but I don’t necessarily believe Sench deserved to win.”
He went on to discuss how Grime frontrunners Ghetts and Bashy should have received the award: “Bashy released an album last year (I even contacted the head of the MOBOS and mentioned that it’d be a disservice if he didn’t take an award home) and there have been social commentaries saying he deserved it as well, so I can’t comment, but I do doubt it.”
In another part of the message on Instagram, he noted, “Sench never cared for award shows,” and also explained why he mentioned Aitch’s victory in 2023 over the song “5 Stars” from his debut album “I Can’t Rush With Grandeur.”
“One particular year, my team convinced me it was a good idea to attend (the Brits), despite the fact that we didn’t win, which is why Sench felt like it was an injection (because) he went against his natural inclinations and didn’t even win,” said YB. “(‘5 Stars’) was not meant for the record, but (Aitch) took it that way (and) I understand why, which is fairly fair, as CC’s commentary indicated,” referencing a comment Sench made under Aitch’s post, asking if “the guy called?”
In conclusion, Ibiz stated that “fan voting is flawed,” suggesting that it could easily be influenced by “one artist’s campaign, while another does not conduct a campaign, making the reward ultimately a popularity contest.”
The central core has not commented on his British award.
