The entertainment world reacts
The entertainment industry has responded to the shutdown of TikTok in the US, with many labeling it a “dystopian” moment.
TikTok officially goes dark
The social media application officially ceased operations in the country on Saturday (January 18), just before the Supreme Court’s deadline on Sunday.
Users of the app were met with the message: “Sorry, TikTok is unavailable right now. A law has been passed in the US to ban TikTok. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot use TikTok for now.”
“We are fortunate that President Trump has made it clear that he will work with us on a solution to rebuild TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
Since then, Trump indicated that a 90-day delay to the ban is “most likely” after he assumes office on Monday (Jan. 20), claiming that would be the “appropriate” course of action.
Nonetheless, many voiced their opinions about the closure. Lizzo, an enthusiastic TikTok user, took to Instagram to share a comedic video mourning the platform. “In loving memory of Takesh “TikTok” Woods,” the post mentioned, alluding to today’s date while referencing TikTok’s launch in 2016.
