A dancer’s bold statement
A member of the Kendrick Lamar dance team was pursued and escorted from the field during a break in the Super Bowl in 2025. Find out more below.
The powerful performance
During this historic event, 400-horsepower movements by dancers and models joined the rapper on stage. By the end of the performance, many performers were visible throughout the New Orleans Superdome as Kendrick took the stage with DJ Mustard, the producer.
The majority of the performers donned all-black outfits. At the conclusion of the show, one of the dancers unveiled a Palestinian flag that had the words “Sudan” and “Gas” inscribed on it. He then leaped from the stage and ran across the field, waving the flag high.
An unidentified individual was pursued by security, ultimately being taken to the ground and escorted from the field. You can view the incident below.

Official statements and context
In a statement, K. NBC reported that the NFL press secretary commented on the situation: “We advise security to quickly detain the individual who displayed the flag. He was part of a team consisting of 400 members. The man concealed the object he possessed and revealed it at the end of the show. No one associated with the production was aware of the individual’s intentions.”
It remains unclear what repercussions the dancer will face for this act.
This incident unfolds amidst ongoing tensions following a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine that began earlier this year. In late October, the prolonged conflict took center stage as a group of musicians called for the end of hostilities.
During Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl, icons such as SZA, Serena Williams, and Samuel L. Jackson joined in as the rapper showcased excerpts from his latest album, concluding with the track “Not Like Us” before expressing his gratitude to Drake for promoting the song through Universal Music Group.
While hinting at “Not Like Us,” which was performed briefly, Kendrick remarked during his set: “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know how they like to sue.” He later resumed performing the song in full.
Kendrick’s Super Bowl appearance followed a successful week for the rapper, who won five Grammy Awards in 2025, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his track “Not Like Us,” which was a response to Drake.
Kendrick Lamar unexpectedly released his sixth and final album, GNX, last November. The album received a glowing five-star review, and “Not Like Us” was recognized by NME as the second-best song of 2024.
