The Bodice to Release “New Life” – Their First New Song in 13 Years

Wu Lyf’s New Release

Wu LYF has officially unveiled a new single titled “New Life comes” – marking their first new music in a decade. Check it out below.

Details of the New Single

The cult indie group first teased the single yesterday (April 2) with a subtle update on their website. Now, it has been officially released and is available for streaming on Bandcamp.

Titled “New Life,” the song celebrates their first new music since their split in 2012, following their last track, “Triumph.” Running for six minutes, it begins with a mix of ethereal instruments that gradually build in intensity until Tom McClung delivers a soothing vocal melody.

Ordinary people, holding their breath / slowly, lacking air,” he sings in a somber tone, as the song evolves toward a massive indie chorus reminiscent of the 2000s.

“Wu Lyf was always better off leaving things unsaid. We experienced so much without discussing it. It was the words that hurt us. You just had to feel it,” the group stated in a recent press release. “Twelve years after the fire burned us down, life separated us.”

“Then something broke. Or healed,” they continued. “We created a haven in the attic of a friend’s bookstore for unfamiliar tools. Familiar emotions, and we started playing. It began tentatively, but with open hearts and minds, searching for new forms beyond what had happened before.”

“Old friends with new scars, trying not to reopen yesterday’s wounds. We are all astonished by the grand music that continues to flow through us. This unexpected gift comes after the longest exile. The fragment of what we were has only expanded with who we are now.”

“What it will become, we do not know. You don’t dig up a seed to check if it’s growing, you wait. You trust that you recognize a tree by its fruits… Our hands know what our minds have forgotten. This has always been nearby, awaiting our remembrance.”

Their return follows earlier hints from Elleri Roberts and Ko, who had fans speculating this year about a potential reunion. A Reddit user claimed to have received a postcard from the group featuring a link to a mysterious countdown clock set for April 2.

Upcoming Performances

Later hints emerged when the group shared two Instagram posts featuring a black and white teaser of a musical machine in Manchester, as well as a sandwich board displaying their logo around the city.

Further speculation arose in February when “Lost in Heaven” – a group formed by Elleri Roberts after Wu Lyf’s split in 2012 – announced their disbandment with a farewell single titled “Creation Song.”

Alongside the new track, the group has also confirmed live performances in Manchester and several European festival dates. The first includes three nights at The Kings Arms in Salford at the end of this month, followed by stops in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Italy.

The indie group was founded in 2008, taking their name from “World Unite Lucifer Youth Fund.” In June 2011, they released their debut album “Go Tell Fire to the Mountain” and gained a cult following.

In 2012, they began hinting at new material but ultimately chose to disband. They confirmed the split while on stage at Manchester’s HMV Ritz, where the frontman told the crowd “Goodbye Forever.”

After Wu Lyf’s disbandment, Roberts formed “Lost in Heaven.” The other band members, Evans, Katya, Tom McClung, and Joe Manning continued making music together as Los Porcos, alongside three members of Famy.

“We all knew it wasn’t working,” drummer Joe Manning told NME in April 2013 while reflecting on the split. “There’s no explanation behind it. There are countless reasons, but ultimately it just didn’t work out. No one’s trying to hide anything. If it isn’t working, it’ll eventually fall apart.”

With new music and upcoming Wu Lyf shows, they have also revived their Lucifer Youth Fund, announcing plans for more live dates in the near future.
