Statement on Group’s Separation

Last night (March 19), the group took to social media to share a detailed statement about their separation. In this message, they expressed that Webster’s “disgusting actions” led to his dismissal and caused “irreparable damage” to the band.

They stated: “Gel is no longer a group, and therefore none of our upcoming shows will take place.”

“The core reason is simple; former guitarist Anthony Webster committed such repugnant actions in his pursuit of a musical career that he inflicted irreparable harm to the band, impacting more people than we can explain to the extent that he can no longer be part of the group.”

Details of Alleged Actions

The band went on to outline several of Webster’s purported “disgusting actions.” They claimed that he “stole tens of thousands of dollars from us, and the most frustrating part is that he left a paper trail.” He allegedly misused funds for “his personal expenses, food orders, and various luxuries” while stating that “no one had access to the group’s bank account despite numerous attempts.”

Furthermore, they accused Webster of spending stolen money on “an astonishing number of purchases on OnlyFans and mysterious CashApp transactions.”

The group’s allegations against Webster escalated as they claimed he “shared private images of the band on Reddit” while stating, “he did this while still with us.” They noted, “Fortunately, he was careless in covering his tracks, so we have receipts to corroborate these claims.”

Additionally, they alleged that Webster placed them in “physically hazardous situations” several times, which included reckless driving and “throwing objects at us,” and even using a baseball bat to damage their “van” after a conflict in their Twitter group.

Discussing why they reconciled with his alleged behavior until now, Gel stated: “If you’ve faced an emotionally and/or physically abusive relationship, you may understand it better.”

“It’s complicated when your life, work, and passion are at stake. Abandoning what you care about isn’t easy… We wished for a more straightforward resolution and didn’t want it to end like this…”

Anthony Webster has yet to respond to these claims, and it remains unclear whether the group plans to pursue legal action against him.

Gel parted ways with Webster in September of last year, but only addressed his departure recently. They were scheduled to perform alongside Volbit, Anxious, and Spiritbox in separate tours throughout the year. They were also set to perform at Coachella next month.

Gel played in Tokyo, Japan, just hours before announcing their split, reportedly referencing their final show.

In August of last year, Gel released their EP “Person,” which received a four-star review from NME. Emma Wilks remarked, “This time, Gel has a firmer grip on the wheel; their chaotic energy is nuanced yet unyielding, showcasing their growth with remarkable poise. To overlook them is to risk great loss.”
