The Amazons Release New Collaboration
The Amazons have unveiled a fresh collaborative single with Royal Blood titled “My Blood” – take a listen below.
Upcoming Album and Lead Singles
The Reading band is gearing up to drop their fourth studio album, 21st Century Fiction, on May 9 through Nettwerk Music Group. They have already revealed their lead single, “Living A Lie,” along with its follow-up, “Pitch Black,” in the latter part of 2024.
Now, they have shared “My Blood,” an energetic, triumphant rock anthem featuring thunderous drumming from Royal Blood’s Ben Thatcher and production by Mike Kerr. Listen here:
“Why do we continue pushing forward when the odds are against us and all we hear is ‘stop’?” Amazons frontman Matt Thomson reflected on the inspiration behind the track. My Blood delves into the belief that when you are truly passionate about something, you can overcome the moments of pain. It’s not merely a concept to understand; it’s an emotional experience. As we grow older, more responsibilities, hurdles, and reasons to give up arise. However, with My Blood, I aimed to depict a force that lies beyond our reasoning, deep within us, that transcends logical thinking.”
Thomson also discussed his partnership with Royal Blood for the song. “Mike was among the first individuals I approached about collaborating on 21st Century Fiction,” he recounted. “Over the years, he has taken on a mentor role. He is one of the few people in the industry I can reach out to for an extended conversation.”
“I believed that this album and ‘My Blood’ were the perfect moments to explore the shared understanding we have. We strive to seize every chance to collaborate with artists we respect and admire.”
The Amazons recently shared their thoughts with NME about creating a track alongside Royal Blood. “There’s undoubtedly a mutual understanding, and it was gratifying to see that… within the raw creative process, in the Royal Blood studio,” Thomson stated. “Mike was actually the very first person to contribute to this record. I called him and asked, ‘Do you want to (produce) the Amazons record?’ I think he was taken aback but enthusiastic, insisting that we would only record one song and not the entire album. He emphasized, ‘We need to ensure we shake hands and remain friends after that.’”
Speaking about Thatcher, Thomson described him as a “blockbuster drummer,” adding: “Some of the fills he played were simply phenomenal. He has incredible gospel chops, a technique developed from an early age. He hits like a beast.”
The Amazons’ most recent album, How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me?, was released in 2022. NME rated it three stars, noting that while “How Will I Know If Heaven Finds Me” contains enough mainstream appeal to secure the band’s place as UK festival entrants, it also reveals glimpses of their potential. It leaves one wondering what their sound might evolve into if they embraced a broader array of influences.
