SZA Teases Upcoming Music Release Just Hours After Launching Deluxe Album ‘Lana’

SZA’s New Music Announcement

SZA revealed that more new music is on the horizon, just hours after launching her deluxe album “Lana.”

Release Details of “Lana”

The singer’s eagerly awaited “Lana” dropped yesterday (December 20) following nearly a year of anticipation. She previously disclosed that this album would not stand alone but be a deluxe version of her 2022 release, SOS.

Although fans expected to access the album on Friday morning, it wasn’t available until later that afternoon, when SZA tweeted, “Just need a few more hours for the new mixes to be received evenly across all platforms… (mixes are important) love you camp.”

The album ultimately debuted at 20:00 GMT and features Kendrick Lamar on “30 For 30.” Additionally, Lil Yachty and Benny Blanco each contributed to a track. Most other collaborators on the album are artists SZA worked with on “SOS”, including Michael Uzowuru, ThanksGod4Cody, Rob Bissell, and Carter Lang. The full tracklist can be found here.

Now, less than 24 hours post-release of “Lana,” it appears SZA is poised to unveil even more new music.

Last night on Twitter/X, the “Kill Bill” singer stated: “And before you even started…Punch gave the go-ahead to clean up and remove all songs…more on the way 🙂‍↕️,” referring to her manager Terrence “Punch” Henderson.

She further shared a screenshot of a conversation with Henderson, where she asks to release three additional tracks titled “Take You Down,” “PSA,” and “Open Arms,” noting that “they are all already mastered.”

In response, Henderson advised SZA to “let it breathe for at least a week,” suggesting it might be best to share them around New Year’s or Christmas.

Yesterday, she also debuted the music video for her single “Drive,” which she confirmed will be officially recorded. The video features actor Ben Stiller, with SZA appearing in a beetle form, reminiscent of the album cover. The track “Saturn,” released back in February, is also part of the album.

Lamar’s collaboration follows SZA’s recent surprise album “GNX” and their joint North American tour planned for next year.

Upon the release of “SOS” two years ago, it garnered critical acclaim along with nine Grammy nominations. The album ascended to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 and ranked number two on the UK singles chart, achieving triple platinum certification in the US.

In a five-star review, NME lauded “SOS” as a “comeback album worth waiting for,” while SZA expressed her dedication to creating the best album of her life. In 2020, she claimed her next project would be “simply a phenomenal record that hardly goes wrong,” but with the caveat: “Because this will be my last album.” While we hope SZA retracts that statement, if this is her final offering, she’s certainly leaving at the top of her game.
