Album details and confirmation

SZA previously announced a new album, “Lana,” slated for release in 2023. She then began teasing a deluxe version of her iconic 2022 album “SOS.” Earlier this month, she confirmed that the two projects are intertwined: the deluxe edition of “SOS” will bear the title “Lana.”

Today (December 17), SZA finally confirmed that the album will be released this Friday (December 20). While she has yet to unveil the tracklist for the deluxe album, she has confirmed that the long-awaited track “Drive” will feature on the upcoming album.

In fact, “Drive” will debut its own music video on Friday, featuring Ben Stiller. Check out a preview of the “Drive” music video below.

Ben Stiller’s cameo

Ben Stiller’s appearance in SZA’s “Drive” video follows their mutual appreciation for each other. Earlier this year, SZA humorously requested Stiller for more Severance pay episodes, to which the actor-director assured her shortly after that her request would be fulfilled.

Most recently, SZA made an appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album GNX, a project she teased over a month ago. She is also set to tour with Lamar across North America in 2025 as part of their Grand National tour.

SZA’s “SOS” earned a glowing five-star review from Rhian Daly, writing for NME in 2022: “For the next album, I’m making the best album of my life,” SZA stated in a Flaunt interview in 2020, and “SOS” is precisely that – a remarkable record that consistently impresses and sets an even higher standard than before. However, this declaration came with a caveat: “Because this will be my last album.” We hope SZA revises this statement, but if this is indeed the last we hear from her, at least she is exiting on a high note.
