SZA Announces Additional Updates for Recently Launched Deluxe Album ‘Lana’

Sza Announces Changes to Lana

SZA has revealed plans to make further modifications to her recently launched album “Lana”.

Delayed Release and Fan Response

“Lana” dropped last Friday (December 20) after nearly a year of anticipation. It serves as a deluxe version of her 2022 project SOS rather than being a standalone album.

However, the release faced delays during production. Fans were initially hopeful to hear it by Friday morning, but that wait extended into the afternoon. SZA updated with, “Just need a few more hours for the new mixes to be received evenly across all platforms… (mixes are important) love you camp.”

When it was finally released at 20:00 GMT, the album featured a segment from Kendrick Lamar on “30 for 30”. Additionally, Lil Yachty and Benny Blanco each contributed to a track.

Yet, it appears SZA is not satisfied with how the album is currently represented on streaming services. Earlier today (December 24), she informed fans on Twitter/X that changes would be coming soon.

“After listening I felt clearer, I turn off some mixes when I add something for Christmas lol,” she shared. “It doesn’t mean anything to you, but I had to say it lol. Who knows, maybe you’ll notice.”

This is not the first instance where SZA hinted at potential alterations to “Lana”. On Saturday, less than 24 hours post-release, she mentioned she was preparing to unveil even more new music.

Via Twitter/X, the “Kill Bill” artist stated: “And before you even begin…Punch has given the go-ahead to clean up and remove all songs…more on the way 🙂‍↕️,” referring to her manager Terrence “Punch” Henderson.

She also shared a screenshot of a chat with Henderson, where she requests releasing three additional tracks titled “Take You Down”, “PSA”, and “Open Arms,” mentioning that “they’re all already mastered.”

Henderson responded, advising SZA to “let it breathe for at least a week,” adding, “Give it to them for New Years or Christmas.”

Alongside “Lana,” SZA released the music video for “Drive.” The video features actor Ben Stiller, and SZA herself makes an appearance in beetle form, reminiscent of her album cover. “Saturn,” released back in February, is also included in the album.

Lamar’s involvement follows SZA’s appearance on his surprise album “GNX” last month, and the duo announced a North American tour occurring next year.

The album’s other collaborators mainly consist of those who worked with her on “SOS”, including Michael Uzowuru, ThanksGod4Cody, Rob Bissell, and Carter Lang. The complete tracklist can be viewed here.

When “SOS” was launched two years ago, it garnered significant critical acclaim along with nine Grammy nominations. It topped the Billboard 200 and reached number two on the UK singles chart, earning triple platinum certification in the US.

In a five-star review, NME praised “SOS” as a “comeback album worth waiting for,” highlighting SZA’s statement, “For this next album, I’m making the best album of my life,” in 2020. “SOS” is recognized as a groundbreaking record that continues to elevate standards. SZA had mentioned at that time, “Because this will be my last album.” Fans hope she might reconsider, but if this is the final offering, at least it concludes at an exceptional level.
