Sum 41’s Derick Whibley and Former Manager Engage in Legal Battle Over Sexual Assault Claims

Legal Battles Between Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley and Former Manager

Sum 41's Derick Whibley and his former manager are suing each other over allegations of sexual assault.

Allegations and Denials

In his memoir Walking Disaster, Whibley accused Greig Norie, the former manager of hitmakers Fat Lip and frontman of pop-punk band Treble Charger, of grooming him and subjecting him to sexual and verbal assault over a span of years.

Nori has denied all charges, stating in an interview with Globe and Mail that he had not seen the book or heard the accusations, asserting, “These are false accusations.” Nori has also retained a defamation lawyer.

In a discussion with Toronto Star, he noted that it was Whibley who initiated the relationship, claiming that the “grooming” allegations were unfounded as both were adults when it began.

“The accusation that I initiated the relationship is false. I didn't initiate this. Whibley initiated this aggressively,” he stated. “When the relationship started, Whibley was an adult, just like me.”

He further elaborated: “The accusation that I pressured Whibley to continue the relationship is false. The accusation that I pressured Whibley to continue the relationship by accusing him of homophobia is also false. Ultimately, the relationship simply fizzled out. By mutual consent. Our business relationship continued.”
