Finn Wolfhard Announces Solo Album

Finn Wolfhard announced his debut solo album “Happy Birthday” and shared his nostalgic single “Choose the Last”.

Opening with bright and jangly guitars, crumbling with a bass line and stable drums, “Choose the Last” recalls the indie music vibes of the early 2000s, showcasing Wolfhard’s impressive voice: If I can’t move, I don’t see / I will choose the last / I will choose the last, blending into the enthusiastic choir of the song.

This track serves as the first taste of his upcoming debut album Happy Birthday. Wolfhard is no stranger to the music scene, having previously played with the band Calpurnia and as part of the pop duo The Aubreys.

Album Release Details

The press release describes the album as “a dizzying impulse of nine songs,” which grew from Wolfhard’s personal reflections to nearly 50 tracks by the end of 2022. Happy Birthday is set for release on June 6 through AWAL and is available for pre-order here.

Speaking about the album, Wolfhard shared: “I realized I wrote a lot of terrible things, but some of the songs that I was really proud of went to The Aubreys. I began to sense a common theme in many other songs related to my identity, anxiety, nostalgia, childhood, and loneliness. All this was part of a larger puzzle. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I wasn’t sure which songs were right.”

He also spoke about his acting career, which includes a starring role in the popular Netflix series Stranger Things and two Ghostbusters films. Wolfhard explained that these creative outlets “were for me to establish control for myself and a little peace.”

He added: “For me, music has always been about control. While I am very grateful for acting, now that it’s a career, I still seek that unique feeling I get when I play guitar and write songs alone.”

Additionally, Wolfhard announced a series of tour dates throughout North America called “Objection!” The tour will kick off on June 5 in Los Angeles, with stops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.
