Spotify Price Increase in Benelux
Spotify has announced a price increase for its subscribers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
The price hike, first reported by Billboard, comes as the Swedish streaming giant aims for sustainable profit following reports of its first full year of operating profit expected in 2024.
Subscription Price Details
In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, individual subscriptions have now increased to € 12.99 (approximately $14.81 at the current exchange rate), marking an 18% rise from €10.99.
Family plans in these countries also saw a 22% increase, now costing € 21.99 ($25.06), up from €17.99. Meanwhile, the Spotify Dual plan, which supports two accounts under one subscription, experienced a 20% price hike to € 17.99 ($20.50), moving up from €14.99 in both the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
In Belgium, subscribers face a more modest increase, with individual plans rising 9% to € 11.99 ($13.66) from €10.99. Family subscriptions in Belgium are now priced at € 20.99 ($23.91), up 17% from €17.99. The Duo plan also saw a 13% increase, now costing € 16.99 ($19.34), up from €14.99.
Student plans, traditionally offered at a discount to attract younger users, have also experienced a price increase. Students in all three countries will now pay € 6.99 ($7.96), an increase of €1 from the previous price of €5.99.
Comparative Pricing with Neighboring Markets
The price increases in the Benelux region now surpass those of Spotify services in larger neighboring countries. For context, individual plans in Germany and Spain remain at € 10.99, while French subscribers pay € 11.12 ($12.66). In Switzerland, the individual subscription is priced above 13.95 CHF ($17.04).
This marks the second significant price adjustment in the Benelux region since July 2023, when the company released pricing updates across North America, Europe, and Asia.
The latest changes follow similar moves in other regions over the past year. In April 2024, Spotify raised prices in the UK, Australia, and Pakistan, followed by increases in the United States in June 2024 and in Canada in October 2024.
In the US, premium subscribers are now paying $11.99 for an individual plan, up from $10.99 in 2023. Family plans increased to $19.99 per month from $16.99, and the premium Duo is now priced at $16.99 (previously $14.99). The premium student plan remains at $5.99 per month.
Amid these price increases, Spotify is preparing to launch the so-called ‘Music Pro’ tier, which will include various Superfan benefits. Last July, Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek informed analysts that the company is working on a more premium Deluxe level.
