Spotify Introduces “Snooze” Feature for Tracks

Spotify’s New Functionality

Spotify has unveiled a new feature that will enable users to “start” certain songs from which they wish to take a break.

The press release from the music streaming giant introduced the ability to temporarily remove a song from your recommendations for 30 days if you grow tired of it, without opting to delete it entirely.

Spotify mentioned: “This option allows you to temporarily exclude the track from your recommendations, giving you a chance to explore fresh content while keeping the door open for a future return. We are initially rolling this out to premium users and aim to extend it to a broader audience.”

Enhanced User Control

The new feature will be launched alongside an upgraded queue menu, which includes controls such as shuffle, Smart shuffle, repeat, and a sleep timer. Additionally, users can expect a more intuitive shelter button, enhanced playlist management tools, and greater supervisory features.

These enhancements come after Spotify faced considerable technical issues in recent months. In April, users expressed frustration when the service experienced outages, leading to a widespread failure globally.

Over 40,000 users filed complaints on the downdetector, which monitors platform-related issues, indicating problems with both the Spotify app and website, as reported by Diversity. Additionally, fans of the band System of a Down declared an “International Crisis” when the popular 2001 album “Toxicity” briefly disappeared from the service.

On a brighter note, Spotify recently announced that it paid out $10 billion (£7.7 billion) in royalties in 2024, marking the largest single-year disbursement in the music industry.

The streaming platform reported that 1,500 artists earned over $1 million (£755,295) in royalties, signifying a tenfold increase in their annual payout from the $1 billion (£755.2 million) distributed in 2024.

Earlier this month (May 1), the company partnered with Travis Scott to create a new shirt for the Spanish football team Barcelona, and the artist’s label was featured as a sponsor for the team’s crucial match against Real Madrid.
