Spiritbox Claims They Accidentally Shared ‘Fake Jordan Fish Propaganda’ but Would ‘Love to Collaborate’ with Him

Spiritbox Clarifies Album Production Details

Spiritbox has stated that former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish did not produce their new album but expressed that they would “love” to collaborate with him in the future.

Earlier this year, Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer shared a behind-the-scenes image from the studio, featuring Fish at the mixing desk alongside lead singer Courtney LaPlante of the Canadian metalcore band.

This image led fans to speculate that Fish was involved in some capacity with the band’s upcoming full-length project. Last month, Spiritbox announced their second studio album, titled Tsunami Sea.

New Singles and Collaborations

They also released two singles from the album, “Perfect Soul” and “Soft Spine,” which were produced by Stringer and Dan Brownstein. Both producers also contributed to Spiritbox’s 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue.

In a recent interview with The Zach Sang Show, LaPlante and Stringer clarified that their time with Fish was mainly a regular writing session.

“Michael accidentally spoofed Jordan Fish’s propaganda,” LaPlante shared (via Kerrang!). “We were very embarrassed because Jordan is so great, pleasant, and amazing to work with that you forget he is a famous person.

“So we went and did some songwriting sessions with him, and Michael posted a photo saying, ‘Hanging with Jordan!’

Stringer added, “I’ve always just added things to my story, right? I did it all the time with Zakk (Cervini), Drew (Falk), or any of those guys. So I just didn’t think about the consequences – I didn’t think about anything.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I’m here with my buddy Jordan, we’re making music.’ I’ll just do a little thing.” However, shortly thereafter, speculation arose: “Jordan Fish in the studio with Spiritbox! He’s writing their album!”

Reflecting on the fans’ and media’s responses to the post, LaPlante remarked, “I was like, ‘Michael, Jordan is famous!’ People are delighted!”

Stringer continued, “At this point, we’re driving home, and Jordan is in the car with us. I’m like, ‘Sorry about that.’ He’s being really nice. The next day, I wake up and think: ‘Damn it!’

Future Collaboration Possibilities

Despite the mix-up, the guitarist expressed his desire to work with Fish, labeling him as “so talented.” Stringer explained the lack of a full collaboration this time by saying, “Our timing just didn’t work out.”

LaPlante noted that Spiritbox “learned a lot from Jordan just hanging out with him for three days,” adding, “From a production standpoint, it was really cool to watch him do things. He’s amazing. But Michael accidentally promoted Jordan.”

Stringer concluded, “I hope we can work together in the future, and maybe next time I won’t post a photo of him in the studio.”

Last year, it was announced that Fish had parted ways with Bring Me The Horizon. The keyboardist, percussionist, and producer joined the Sheffield-based band in 2012 and significantly influenced their songwriting and contemporary sound by adding electronic elements.

Since then, Fish has collaborated with bands like House Of Protection (the new project of former Fever 333 members Arik Improta and Stephen “Stevis” Harrison), Poppy, Busted, and Architects.

Earlier this year, he shared with NME, “In general, I’m attracted to creative people – I don’t really care about virtuoso playing in particular – I’m more looking for someone with ideas and direction.”

“I’m usually drawn to artists who don’t want to tread the same path as before. I’ve been in rock music for quite a while, and many bands sound similar. I typically seek someone who aims to make a broader impact and bring it together.”

Fish added, “I can’t not do it. I prefer things that are quite colorful. I’m not a fan of boring music. I want to be like candy. It’s more my style and instinct.”

“I’ll do anything as long as I have enough reasons to worry. I don’t care about the genre as long as it’s good. If I connect with people, if they’re great to work with, it has a huge impact on what kind of music comes out.”

Over the summer, BMTH’s Oli Sykes explained to NME that Fish’s departure stemmed from the band reaching a point where they were no longer happy as a unit.

“He has served our band very well, and without him, the band would not be what we are. I don’t think I can sing. He was an agent there and helped me do it. I learned a lot from him,” Sykes noted.

Sykes also mentioned, “I think he learned a lot from me. I’m sure one day we’ll see each other again and talk. Nothing happened that couldn’t be settled over drinks. That’s all.”

Meanwhile, Spiritbox’s 2023 track “Cellar Door” is nominated for a 2025 Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category.

The band will be releasing Tsunami Sea on March 7th via Pale Chord in collaboration with Rise Records (pre-order here), and next month they will embark on a North American tour.

Spiritbox is set to perform at Alexandra Palace next February as part of their UK and European tour. Remaining tickets can be found here.) They are also scheduled to appear at Download Festival 2025 in June.
