The First Teaser Trailer and Release Date
The first teaser trailer and release date have been announced for the long-awaited Spine II movie.
A Sequel to a Beloved Classic
The film is a continuation of the beloved McMEnt from 1984: This is a spine, inspired by the rock group Spinal Tap, which is regarded as one of the greatest comedic films of all time. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, who portray the unfortunate trio of heavy metal musicians, are all set to return for the sequel.
Spine II: The End Continues is anticipated to be released on September 12 this year in the United States, with the UK premiere yet to be announced. A brief teaser trailer reveals a character turning an amplifier up to 11—a nod to the cult classic’s famous phrase—and then reaches infinity.
Following the amplifier’s transition to infinity, an explosion occurs, accompanied by the iconic track “Stonehenge” from Spinal Tap. Check out the teaser trailer below.

The sequel will also feature cameos from Elton John, Paul McCartney, Questlove, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood.
Insights from Director Rob Reiner
In a recent interview with Empire, director Rob Reiner shared that the film aims to reveal what the characters—singer David St. Hubbins, guitarist Nigel Tufnel, and bassist Derek Smalls—have been up to since the dissolution of Spinal Tap.
“Nigel runs a cheese shop and plays guitar in Berwick-Upon-Tweed,” Reiner mentioned. “He also performed with a local folk group that plays penny whistle and mandolin, alongside the electric guitar. We include a short clip of this.”
He added, “David St. Hubbins resides in Morro Bay, California, where he composes music for podcasts, particularly a true crime podcast titled ‘Murder Problem.’ He also creates the hold music you hear when you pause a call.”
“Derek lives in London and is now a curator at the new glue museum, overseeing the history of glue from every country in the world. He has also performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra and composed a symphony called ‘Hellish Dilemmas.’”
The original This is Spinal Tap was released in 1984, with the sequel first hinted at in 2022.
Confirmed names returning for Spine II include Fran Drescher and Paul Shaffer, along with new additions such as Michael Higgins, Chris Addison, Kerry Godliman, and Nina Conti.
