New Track Announcement
The new track, titled “When the Light Comes Out,” will connect the family of Specials. It was announced today (March 21) and will be debuted for the first time at a special event in Coventry this weekend.
Taking place on Sunday (March 23), the single will be broadcast for the first time during a special event at a two-tone museum in the city. It is co-written by Specials founders Lynval Golding, Mark Adams, and Nikolaj Torp Larson, intending to pay tribute to the genre’s giants.
This tribute includes honors for late legends associated with two-tone music, particularly the late frontman Terry Hall and drummer John Bradbury. It also commemorates other notable figures like Roger and Rico, along with saxophonist Arthur and Dave Jordan from Selector.
The event is already sold out and will take place from noon to 4 PM in the museum. It will feature an exhibition dedicated to the fallen heroes of two-tone music and include meet-and-greets with Lynval Golding, a DJ, and a question-and-answer session.
All proceeds will go to charitable organizations “Specialized Projects and Tonics” (Music for Mental Health). Visit here for more information about the charity and here for additional details about the event. The single will be available on streaming platforms starting Monday (March 24).
Tribute to Terry Hall
The weekend event occurs just days after the late frontman Terry Hall celebrated his 66th birthday.
Hall passed away in December 2022 following a cancer diagnosis months prior. He was 63 years old.
This week, the remaining members of the group commemorated the milestone with an Instagram post, wishing the singer a “happy heavenly birthday.” Check it above.
Following Hall’s death, his bandmates Horace Panter revealed plans for guitarist Lynval Golding and Specials to record a reggae album in Los Angeles in early November 2022. However, Hall fell ill just before entering pre-production, leading to his subsequent cancer diagnosis.
In January, he was laid to rest at Golders Green Crematorium, attended by individuals including Tim Burgess and Steve Cradock from Ocean Colour Scene.
Last spring, Gorillaz and Blur’s Damon Albarn reminisced about their first meeting with the singer in an interview, referring to the late star as “the coolest man on earth.”
