Sophie Ellis-Bextor Reveals She’s Performed Over 100 Gigs Since Saltburn’s Release.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Performance Milestone

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shared that she has completed over 100 shows since the release of the 2023 film, Saltburn.

Reviving A Classic Hit

The singer’s iconic 2001 disco-pop track “Murder On The Dancefloor” featured in the movie’s final scene, showcasing lead actor Barry Keoghan dancing in the nude. The song gained immense popularity on TikTok earlier this year, climbing to number two on the UK singles chart and marking Ellis-Bextor’s first top ten entry since 2007.

In January, the track made its debut on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Global 200. She previously described the resurgence of the song as an “impressive” moment.

On BBC Breakfast today (December 31), she spoke about how the revival of her song has led to her performing more than 100 concerts this year. New Year’s disco featured prominently in the discussion.

“I anticipated doing some shows this year, but there were so many things that surprised me. I’ve never performed this much in my career. I’ve done around 110 shows this year,” she stated (via Music news).

She added, “It’s not just me; it’s my whole band and crew. It’s incredible. There were many highlights. It’s amazing to reach this stage in my career and still be experiencing something new—it’s thrilling. So I really wanted to seize the moment.”

Future Aspirations

In an interview with NME at the beginning of 2024, Ellis-Bextor remarked that she had “nothing at all” in terms of awareness or success in America before Saltburn. “It felt quite unusual,” she explained. “It’s a new experience for them, and it’s wild.”

“Before, nothing occurred there, which actually suited me. If I’ve learned anything along the way, it’s to follow the momentum.”

She further commented, “The idea of being famous in America would require a lot of time away from me, and I prefer to go where something is already happening. I’ve experienced considerable success with my first record in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and many other regions—but if it leads me there now, we’ll see what unfolds.

Ellis-Bextor will host her New Year’s disco concert tonight (December 31), headlining on BBC One and iPlayer at 11:30 PM (GMT).

Reflecting on her forthcoming performance, she shared, “New Year’s Eve is such a significant occasion, and I truly appreciate it when people choose to celebrate it with us. I want to ensure we create an unforgettable New Year’s party. Sometimes, we ponder the past year, and there’s so much pressure surrounding decisions as we transition into January. My goal is to provide that last bit of escapist fun.”
