Sony Music Publishing Inks Global Deal with Producer MTECH

MTECH Signs Major Publishing Deal

The outstanding producer Matthew Bernard, aka MTECH, signed a global publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing (SMP) in partnership with the producer Sounwave.

The transaction encompasses the catalog and future songs. The MTECH catalog includes six tracks on Kendrick Lamar‘s album Gn, which was released in November last year and hit No. 1 on the United States Billboard 200.

Chart-Topping Collaborations

Among the MTECH titles on this album are tracks like Luther, which recently reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Argue, which also debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

MTECH also contributed to Kendrick Lamar’s Euphoria (one of the standout tracks in his lyrical battle with Drake), as well as Kali UchisOrquídeas and BLXST‘s I Will Always Come in Search of You.

“The exceptional talent of MTECH is really inspiring to be nearby, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with him.”

“It is a great honor for us to welcome MTECH into the Sony Music Publishing family along with the foresighted Sounwave, and we are excited about the incredible music to come,” said Loren Manro, Creative A & R at Sony Music Publishing.

“Navigating to this moment in my journey has not been easy. Life can be tough, but I believe that faith and love will guide you. I am truly grateful to be here and thankful to Sounwave for this opportunity,” MTECH stated on Wednesday (March 26).

Sounwave remarked: “When someone has an incredible work ethic like Matt does, you get the results you see. I knew from day one that Matt was a superstar and would become one of the greatest producers in the world.”

“Life can demolish you, but I indicate that faith and love will lead you.”

MTECH

MTECH’s manager, Gary Biddy, described the Sony deal as “the culmination of the full circle. To see Sounwave, who believed in me early on, now joining forces with MTECH—someone I believed in since high school—is one of the best things that has ever happened.”

For SMP, this deal follows a series of new signings, including last fall’s agreement with songwriter/producer Julian Banett, better known for working with Sabrina Carpenter on Espresso, as well as a global deal with producer Mike Dean and several members of his production team, MWA.

More recently, SMP resumed a creative partnership with K-POP specialists Hello Group and expanded a two-year deal with India’s Music Tips, under which SMP manages administration, synchronization, and promotion of the TIPS catalog on global digital platforms.

Earlier this year, SMP expanded into Thailand and signed global publishing agreements with pop songwriter Billy Steinberg and his son Ezra Steinberg.
