Artists including Jesse Alexander, Amy Allen, Jesse Jo Dillon, and RAYE, nominated for Songwriter of the Year, announced their decision to skip the streaming platform’s holiday party and refrain from performing at the event.

Reason Behind the Boycott

While discussing with Billboard, Allen (Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Sabrina Carpenter) and Dillon (Jelly Roll, Megan Maroney) confirmed their absence stems from Spotify’s treatment of songwriters.

“After some consideration, I cannot in good conscience support this initiative given their approach to royalty pooling,” Dillon stated to the publication. “It’s great to receive an individual award, but for me and my entire community of songwriters, it’s better that we get paid fairly for our art. There are no songs without authors.”
