Social Media Responds to Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 Breaks: “It Wasn’t a Big Deal”

Kendrick Lamar’s Historic Super Bowl Performance

Social networks are abuzz following Kendrick Lamar’s groundbreaking performance during the halftime show at the 2025 Super Bowl – find out what people are saying below.

Kendrick Lamar made history with his performance, becoming the first solo rapper to headline the mass showcase. He was joined by SZA for two songs, and also featured visual representations of Serena Williams and Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam.

Reactions to the Performance

However, the biggest headlines from his performance focused on his jabs at Drake, with whom he had a public feud last year. During the show, Kendrick performed “Not Like Us” and took aim at Drake in a segment within the universal musical group for promoting the song.

Fans flooded social networks to voice their opinions about the performance; some hailed it as a “masterpiece,” while others criticized it as “the worst halftime show in history.”

Some critics labeled Kendrick’s performance as “the smallest shit,” yet admitted feeling “inspired,” while others enjoyed the sight of Lamar smiling at the camera right after calling out Drake by name.

Despite many praises, Lamar’s performance also faced backlash, with some branding it “the worst performance of the Super Bowl in the last decade.”

Lamar opened his set with an unrelated verse before transitioning into “Quarrels,” “Modesty,” “DNA,” and “Euphoria.”

Hinting at “Not Like Us,” which he performed only briefly, Kendrick remarked during the show: “I want to play their favorite song, but you know they like to sue.” Despite this, Kendrick ultimately performed “Not Like Us,” following SZA’s appearances on “Luther” and “All Stars.”

This Super Bowl performance came after a monumental week for Kendrick, who won five Grammy Awards the previous week, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his track “Not Like Us.”

Kendrick Lamar unexpectedly released his sixth and final GNX album last November, which received a glowing five-star review, and “Not Like Us” was recognized as NME’s second-best song of 2024.
